Al,

You must not have downloaded the latest version of N1MM Logger. We revised
it two weeks ago, based on scoring and rule feedback from the ARRL.

How did you setup N1MM?

I had some spare time and hadn't completely scratched the contesting itch
with my meager participation in SARTG. When I saw Don Hill's email I
decided to jump in for a bit. And since I'm not a rookie nor was I planning
to submit the log, I left the amp on.

I selected the RRRTTY contest in N1MM. It would not let me log anyone whose
year part of the exchange was less than 09 and it would not let me log any
DX stations. Since the exchange part was correct, I assumed that I chose
the right contest when I created the log in N1MM. What did I do wrong?

Regards,

Al

I didn't notice any "ROOKIES ONLY" being sent but I was in the contest for
just under 1 hour after starting late and shutting down as a huge storm
rolled in. I myself sent "CQ ROOKIES K2DSL K2DSL CQ" but I worked everyone
that called me - rookies, non-rookies, DX non-rookies and a DX station not
even in the contest. To me sending CQ ROOKIES is like being in a state QSO
party as an out of state participant and I only get credit for working
stations in the contest state. It doesn't prevent me from working/logging
anyone but it does notify anyone working me they wouldn't get points for a
contact. The contest rules indicate there's no winner/award in the
non-rookie category. It's the satisfaction of making contacts and hopefully
giving the rookies a bit of fun that's the driver here.

I used N1MM and it calculated the score properly and matches how I read the
rules, but they are a little confusing. It's actually more brain work to
submit a score to a Rookie Roundup than most other contests. How many rookie
Qs & points, how many non-rookie Qs & points and how many mults. Maybe the
rules could explicitly indicate that mults are only relevant for contacts
made that aren't 0 points. And maybe submitting the cabrillo file could be a
future option. In N1MM the results show:

Band QSOs Pts Mlt
    14 23 26 11

which translates to 26 points = 13 rookie contacts worth 2 points. 23
contacts total - 13 rookie contacts = 10 non-rookie contacts. 11 mults = 11
different states + DX logged for the 13 rookie contacts. Yes, I know some of
you used to do it by hand with an abacus so why are we complaining about
something this simple, but why make things more complex than they need to
be?

It was a good hour and glad to work 13 rookies. Hopefully they continue to
participate in future contests.
