here's what Don was using; and a little below input from W4TV on some
alternatives.  I used the second (cheaper) of the ones recommended by
Joe with good luck in a couple of contests now.

I recently purchased one of these for my laptop:

It seems to work well although its not totally battle-tested yet.

For USB sound cards these two have separate mic and line inputs and
seem to work well with WriteLog and N1MM Logger:

The latter one is identical to the StarTech unit.

Just finished reading the very good article by AA5AU on RTTY SO2R.
This is a very well packed article and I am sure will help some with
making the move to SO2R.

In this article Don suggests using a USB Sound Device.  I have looked
on the internet and there are a multitude of devices out there in the
ether.

So my questions, who are using such devices and what are you using?
