[RTTY] I have a question

Hi everybody,
 I have a question that I'm sure will find answers amongst this knoledgeble crowd.
I thought  had this figured out but now I wonder:  In log checking procedures, if one station has the correct information logged but the other one logs an erroneous exchange are both ops penalized? Also if the 'offending' station has logged a wrong or broken call are both stations penalized?
I guess it depends on the logging correction software used by different contest sponsors but if so wouldn't it be better to state withing the contest rules what would result in an error and what wouldn't?
