[RTTY] [CQ-Contest] Need advice

Well, as a lowly SO1R guy I've experienced both sides of this issue. I've
been called by stations when I'm running who then don't reply when I send my
exchange. After a second or third try they suddenly reappear. It may have
been QRM at their end or a double when I called them back, but I'm also sure
sometimes it's a SO2R station who called me on his S&P radio only to jump
back to his run radio when he gets a call there. I'm then left hanging in
the wind. I usually just dump the call send a QRZ and keep going. Many
times the station will come back in short order and we work and I get the
points. I think that's the whole purpose of a contest!

Having said that, I also notice that many stations will call me once when
I'm on a run and if I don't come back to them immediately they are long gone
by the time I work someone else first. I usually try to take stations in
the order they call, but there are exceptions. If I see a mult in the pile
I will go for them first, then the others. In the Russian WW RTTY this
weekend stations on another continent counted 10 pts, while NA stations only
counted 5. Sorry, nothing personal, but you just ain't worth moving to the
head of the line because you've been contesting a long time! Become a mult
or worth more points on a QSO and you will get to the head of the class in
short order.

73,
Gary AL9A
