Hi Guys,
Thank You to everyone who responded to my N1MM Logger+ ESM question. In
the future, I will try to do as you say and watch to make sure Logger+ is
"cycling thru the 3 stages" before I press the Enter key.

Hi Guys,
I was going to post my question on the N1MM logger+ Digital reflector,
but
since Don brought up a related subject, and since rtty at contesting .com is
easier for me to post messages on, I'd like to ask the following question
about N1MM Logger+:
For this weekends NAQP-RTTY Test, I was using N1MM Logger+ V.1.0.5785.0
(which I believe is the latest version) and using ESM. ESM worked
flawlessly
when running stations. But while hunting MULTS in S&P mode I frequently
had problems. After entering the other stations Callsign in the Callsign
field and pressing "Enter" the first time, ESM would always send my
Callsign
just as it should. But after filling the logging fields with the proper
received message and then pressing "Enter" the second time in order to
send
my exchange and automatically log the Qso, about 30% of the time Logger+
sent my Callsign again rather than sending my report and logging the Q.
That
really messed me up and may have cost me logging some Q's because of it.
So I'm wondering if anyone else experienced a similar problem?
Thanks & 73,
Dick- K9OM

OK, I give up. How do your properly set up your F2 (EXCH) RUN message when
using ESM?
I want to send the other station's callsign ONCE with my report starting
on
a new line.
Thanks,

Dick,
I have not experienced the problem you described, but it sounds as if it
is
related to N1MM's cycle though the three stages of an S&P ESM QSO. Watch
the
highlighted Function Key buttons to make sure the Entry Window has
advanced
to the next stage:
Stage #1. F4 CALL HIM - Enter sends the MyCallKey message when the
callsign
field is empty or contains a legitimate callsign
Stage #2 F8 AGAIN? - Enter sends the AgainKey message when the exchange
field(s) does not contain a valid contest exchange. (NOTE: This stage is
bypassed when the "contest" rules do not require an exchange - for example
a
DX dxpedition contest)
Stage #3. F2 EXCHANGE and LOG-IT - Enter sends the ExchangeKey message and
logs the QSO
The key to debugging your problem will be in identifying proper stage
sequencing in the Entry Window.

Dick,
I have been caught by something similar from time to time. The key is to be
aware of where the ESM focus is. It is not always where you think it is,
especially if you have to make any corrections to prefilled exchange data,
and that can throw things off.
I believe the problem you experienced arises because the typing focus moves
when you use the mouse to overwrite a prefilled exchange element (prefilled
either from a previous QSO or from a Call History file), or (if I have
remembered this correctly) when you just enter exchange data into an empty
exchange box using the mouse. This focus movement is useful if the element
you entered or corrected was the name (it moves the focus to the state so
you can enter or correct it in turn). However, if the prefilled state was
wrong and you corrected it by clicking on the received state, or if you
have just entered the state into an empty exchange by clicking on the
received state, after doing that the typing focus automatically moves to
the next box, which in this case is the call sign box. When the focus is on
the call sign box in S&P, ESM will send the F4 message, which is not what
you want.
Therefore after correcting or entering the state by clicking in the receive
window, if you see that the typing focus is in the call sign, or
equivalently that ESM highlight is on F4, you need to move the focus from
the call sign back into the exchange. The easiest way to do this is with
the Space bar. Once you do this, ESM will send the TU (F3) message and log
the contact when you press Enter.

I experienced this a couple times during the contest. I don't use the
keyboard much and do it all with the mouse, but the "Right click=Enter"
option should duplicate the experience.
I know why it occurs but not what I did to put the cursor into that
position. It happens when the cursor is in the call sign field when
Enter/Right Click is sent. I'm not sure what I did when clicking through
the other operators name/state. I only handled a hair over 300 calls in the
NAQP and it might have happened 5-8 times. Unfortunately, I'm not watching
the Entry window but watching the digital window so I'm not sure what I
did, assuming it's not an application issue, to cause it.
But you aren't alone if that makes you feel better.
