That's true.  But you do have a few good software choices in the case of 
AFSK, and the change from one to the next is not too painful.  In the case 
of FSK, if you don't like what you have, only a rig change remains.

"you have full control" is perhaps a little overstated.  It should be "the 
software developer" has full control :-) :-).
