N6OO Score for NAQP CW Contest
55 Contacts
21 Multipliers
1,155 Points
All on 20 Meters except for one on 15 & another on 40.
Worked about 3 1/2 hours QRP.
Yaesu 857D running 5 Watts into a LDG AutoTuner and a G5RV Antenna up in the trees about 30 ft up.
Spent that weekend at an enjoyable and relaxing camping trip. The fish were not biting as well as they have in prior trips but, it didn't matter since everything else went great.
I strung up a G5RV from a tall pine tree branch 30 ft up & had it stretched
pretty much parallel across the fishing stream. We were camped in a canyon so
the takeoff angles were limited. Never once heard Southern California but the
east came in nice during NAQP.
I used three 7 amp dry cells linked together to powered my 857D at 5 watts.
I made some casual QSO's on Friday testing out my set-up. It was fun.
For the contest, I made about 55 Q's hand logging, which made it tough to keep
track of duplicates. Folks were nice enough to tell me "QSO B4" or something
similar. I was limited to about 3 1/2 hours of operating.
It was tough being heard. All the good ears out there helped me make the "Q"'s"
and quite a few of the operators would work with me to make the contact sending
"?" and "AGN" until they got my full exchange. That was nice.
I used my regular rig (instead of the Norcal's on 20 & 40) thinking I could make more band changes although I pretty much worked only on 20M. I called it a day early when the power started to slip below 12 Volts, the fish started to bite, cool drinks were brought out and BBQ ribs started spreading their aroma.
After slowly unpacking from the trip, I finally transferred the paper log to the computer Excel file found online and sent in my results for the team.
73 to all
