Got off the phone a while ago with Phil's son, Paul, who is in
Albuquerque with Phil's widow, Raina.
Phil was playing racquetball with 3 friends when he fell to the floor.
Others initially thought he was joking around in typical Phil fashion,
but very soon realized it was for real. One gave CPR while others
called paramedics. He was taken to a hospital in or near Ruidoso. He
was conscious at the hospital. They did a cat scan and determined that
he had an aneurysm, and that there was a lot of blood in the brain.
They flew him to Albuquerque accompanied by Raina. At the University
of New Mexico Hospital, he started slipping away. His son, Paul,
arrived at the hospital yesterday, before Phil actually passed away,
but Phil was unconscious at the time.
Parts of the physical Phil live on. Phil was an organ donor, and three
people now have a new lease on life. Phil is expected to be cremated
by the end of the week.
Paul said that memorial services are still unplanned. It is likely
that there will be a service in Los Angeles in the future, for those
unable to get to New Mexico.
Marty Woll, N6VI, was over here today, helping me with an antenna
project. He also talked to Paul while I was on the tower, answering
some radio related questions. Marty offered to assist Paul and Raina
with estate issues.
Paul seems to be taking things reasonably well. Still we are all sad.
73,
Dick
