[SCCC] W4EF summary, old SCCC photo?

It has been a long time since I have been to Earl's house. It was only in
recent years that the road in front of his house was paved. The antennas
appear to be pointing toward Europe in the photo. His street runs east and
west and the house is on the north side of the street.

When I operated there in the late 1970s, the shack was in a room on the east
side of the house. I loved looking out the window at the 40 meter beam.
Sunrise out that window was pretty special too. There were no houses in
that direction for at least a half mile. In fact, there was pretty much
that same clearance in all directions.

I don't recall how much property he owned but in addition to the two towers
seen in the photo, he had several beverages strung out and 80 & 160 m
inverted vees.

At the time, the towers were tilt over, not crank up. In fact, the first
time I operated there (1977), I had a real scare as I drove up in the
morning to operate CQP. It was only about an hour or so before the contest,
and he had the TH6 tower tilted over for some work! My heart sank.
However, he had it back in the air in plenty of time and I did quite well
from there.
