Comments:
Thanks again to Jim, W6YI for the use of his great station.
This was definately an unusual January NAQP. Normally from the west
coast high
bands are king.. but not this weekend.
15m was open from 18z til about 22z with strong signals from the east
coast,
but nobody was there. I had to move 6 or 7 mults there from 20m. I
would call
CQ and only get a few answers here and there, so I decided it wasnt
worth the
effort.
20m was ok, but for some reason we never seem to do so great from down
here. I
decided early on when 15m wasnt going to pan out that I would take most
of my
offtime during daylight hours. Because of this, my Q total on 20m was
down a
bit, but it left plenty of time for the low bands. 20m closed really
early as
expected, right around 2330z.
40m was great while it lasted. I had my best hour of the contest on 40m
with
193 q's in the 00z hour. But it went long around 0130z and everybody
left and
never came back. I tried running on 40m later in the evening, and it
was open
fine, but the rate was almost non existent so I had to keep plugging away
on
80.
80m was as good as ive ever heard it. The rates were steady in the 100
- 120
range all night long. The band was long which really helped us on the
west
coast. The whole country was easily readable, and I was able to keep a
frequency without any problems. This has never happened before on 80, so
it
was kinda fun. Im glad I took my offtime during day!
160m was also in good shape. I could hear alot more than I could work,
but 24
mults is a new best for me on 160 ssb. Never got any runs going, but
thats the
norm from out here.
Thanks for all the q's and qsy's.
73,
Dan N6MJ
