A number of people on the list have sent me emails pointing out that
Haitians primarily speak French / Creole. That occurred to me as well.
The message I got from my friend is as stated below. Apparently he
overhead net control complaining about not having Spanish speakers on
frequency. That is all I know. Courtney is a pretty careful operator, so
I doubt the net control said French of Creole. As to whether the net
control was mixed up, I can't say. I can think of several reasons why
they might need someone fluent in Spanish. Haiti is next to the
Dominican Republic. Perhaps there was some traffic coming from HI or
there are some Spanish speaking ex-patriots in Haiti trying to pass
traffic. If you do speak Spanish (or French/Creole for that matter) and
have some time perhaps you can listen on 14265. It's probably much ado
about nothing, but I thought I would pass the message on just in case.
