[SCCC] Fwd: [CQ-Contest] Something we need to remember

I can't stand sitting by and listening to these "complaints". I gotta say
something.

During a contest there are a large number of hams using the spectrum and
all frequencies
are getting used to maximum capacity. I feel that this is more efficient
than two or three
people talking about the same things they have talked about for the last x
number of times
on a frequency that they think should be clear for 4 KHz. By virtue of
propagation, they
are going to be interrupted numerous times by contesters who don't hear one
side of a
QSO.

I agree that we should not intentionally interfere with someone's
transmissions. But no
one has any more right to a frequency than someone else. As a Novice back
in 1955,
I remember having a notary public watch me sign a waiver on the FCC Form
610 that I
waived claim to any particular frequency in the amateur bands. I'm not
sure if that clause
is still on the 610.

If these folks have such a problem with contesters, why don't they migrate
to 17 meters
on the weekend? The WARC bands were made to be free of contesting
activity.

With my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek, I like contests because it
gives me a
chance to see if my station improvements are working. They must be,
because I get
a lot of 59 reports in the contests.
