[SCCC] N1MM Logger vs. Win-TEST

With due respect to Dennis, N6KI, my logging guru and mentor, I used N1MM for
the CA contest, because my existing CT, relegated to a DOS machine, would not
support it.  Installed N1MM on my laptop, got it to talk to the 1000MP both for
control and keying, and was on the air easily and quickly.  Made 400+ contacts,
mostly CW, with not a glitch.

The reason this is remarkable to me is that I am, at best, semi-illiterate
computer wise, and have limited patience.  When I installed CT a couple years
ago, I was on the phone with Dennis for hours getting it going, and his patience
was limitless.  That I could get MM going by myself with no outside hints
indicates, to me anyway, that it's easy!  The instructions, although many pages,
allow basic functions without studying for hours.  A side benefit, to me, is
that I can run Windows at the same time as the contest program.

I'm sold on it!  It's intuitive even for me.  I understand there are issues with
Multi op situations, but for someone like me, who lives in the past, it was
ideal.  (My usual operating rig is a Valiant and 75A4, and I just sold my
Studebaker a couple years back!)

For what it may be worth!

I'll have to give my vote for N1MM.  The support is super and you can't beat the
cost.  Runs well on Win7 and covers just about any contest you could want.  It
offers a host of super gizwacky features or you can reduce it to single entry
window.  Every problem I've encountered was solved reading the manual (all 379
pages!!)  N1MM is not for general logging...Tom sez it in the manual...but even
that can be overcome.  CT and NA were great in their day and I've had a bear of
time weening some off them and into 'MM but hey time to give up the stone ax and
bearskins and move on.
As for Win-Test, I haven't heard anything bad!

Having purchased a new computer to support contesting, I need to decide what
Windows-based contest logging software to use. I've historically used the
DOS-based CT and then NA programs for single op CW and SSB contesting. Besides
the fact that one is free and the other isn't, do SCCCers feel strongly about
N1MM Logger vs. Win-TEST and if so, why?

Thanks for the advice.
