[SCCC] Problem with Format Change

Hi,
3830 e-mails are plain text. Any spacing between elements of the text are individual space characters. It will only correctly render if using a mono-spaced typeface.

The formatting seemed to come out well here, Dan. I've had good luck too
with plain text but I think it was "garbled using RTF or html type copy and
pastes. I've done what Hank suggested successfully as well, which probably
means the email from 3830 is in plain text. I've not thought to pay
attention to that in the past but that would make sense.

Probably depends mostly on the original message formatting. This message I
am sending as "Plain Text" which may use proportional instead of fixed
character widths and mess things up. I will line some stuff and see how it
turns out (though each email list may do different conversions). Usually
you can also send in "HTML" which is the normal now a days and this usually
keeps the formatting (depending on your email reader) and can also usually
use "Rich Text" which also allows formatting without using HTML code.
Test chart - this is lined up (mostly) on my original message (Outlook) and
I used spaces to fill in gaps which are not perfect on my screen (tabs also
cause problems which I used on lines 3, 4):
Col Text1 Text2
1 First First Column 2 used spaces
2 Second Second Column 2 used spaces
3 Third Third Column 2 but used tabs
4 Fourth Fourth Column 2 but used tabs
I have not used the upload to 3830 so have not tested. This is more for
others to think about and they can test out. I am sure it is a combination
of whether tabs/spaces are in the original, whether sent as HTML/Plain
Text/Rich Text and how the mail list sends out (whether it converts). Jim -
you may even get this different direct and through the mail list.

Bob & Dennis,
Thanks for the tips, guys. Sorry nobody believed my record for that high
score:-) What I did was copy the Email that came back from the 3830 post and
put it into MS Word. Later on I copied the text from MS Word and pasted it
into another Email to this reflector. It was laid out like it should be.
Kurt, W6PH, told me he has had similar problems posting in the past. There
must be an answer because other posts, for the most part, look normal....
Jim
