Subject: [CQ-Contest] My FT8 totals: Not what I thought it would be.

Here is the scenario:

1) FT8 user since day 1;
2) No FT8 robots ever used;
3) Maximum power used is 75 Watts, on 80M only;
4) Antenna is a Hustler 6BTV at ground level, no radials;
5) Time spent on the radio is only what a normal, responsible family man,
following a healthy/balanced lifestyle would spend.

Total entities confirmed: 68...yes, sixty eight. I thought I had a lot
more.

I'm sure a number of entities would not have been worked/confirmed using
other modes. This is still far from the end of the hobby as we know it, or
the banalization of DXCC.

It does not appear, based on this sample of only one user, that FT8 is
responsible for any undue advantage in favor of the little pistol, to the
detriment of the more accomplished DXer/Contester.

It would be great if others could post their FT8 totals for comparison.

You are awarding trophies for claimed scores, for only a fraction the
actual
participants

in the contest. (ie: the ones who were logged into the scoreboard that
weekend)

Is this correct?

I've finally completed a year's worth of work on a completely new
cookbook. It covers use of both the newer 4-in o.d. cores and the old
standard 2.4-in diameter cores, both #31 material, made by Fair-Rite.
Merry Christmas!

     The Reflectors note excellent DX is afoot. Very long distance contacts
are
being completed on 160M. The weather is perfect for this with blizzards,
floods,
windstorms, tornados and ice. So find a break in whatever nasty weather you
have
and get your system spiffed for next weekend.. The further away your QSO
partner
is at, the more points you get for that contact. What a concept!
     This year get your log in early and please specify in your comments
any
plaque that you might want to win. The Boring Amateur Radio Club has many
talents but mind reading is not one of those talents. Even if you only
make 3 QSOs
please submit a log. You might win a plaque and you'll also have your call
on the
same list as the best 160M stations in the world.
     There will be one or two more Stew Perry TopBand DX Challenge
exhortations
to the 160M faithful, listing the available plaques.

Looks good Jim! Looking forward to digging into that, I need to make some
station improvements and this will be a great resource.
