[SCCC] KH7XS QTH for Sale

I was in awe when I looked at the Shutterfly photos and read the eham add. The setting, radio location and house are all spectacular--just spectacular.

I couldn't help but wonder why someone would build such a home and superstation--and then sell it three years later. But then I remembered some of the history of superstations and dream homes in Hawaii. A number of other people have built custom homes, assembled big stations, then sold and returned to the mainland after a few years. I can't speak for any of them, but there's something about this Paradise in the Pacific that leads people to sell and return home.

Or perhaps it's just that he didn't build a big enough trophy wall in his hamshack. He can't possibly win any more contests because there's not a square centimeter of open space to mount any more plaques.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, at 1,100 feet ASL this site is not at the optimum elevation for working tropospheric DX on the VHF+ bands. The ideal tropo duct elevation is 5,000-8,000 feet on the Hawaiian end Sometimes stations at 900 feet in the hills above Hilo are LOUD on the mainland, but more often the loud signals come from stations at much higher elevations. The KH6HME beacon site is at 8,200 feet.

I made six trips to the Big Island in 2014-2016 for VHF expeditions and had some success working the mainland even on the microwave bands. But I always knew that I could fly home whenever the duct dissipated, leaving nothing but memories behind..

 Hi Dennis,

My understanding is that the price includes the house and antennas. That's why he wants to sell to a ham.

Wow, beautiful! Does anyone know how much land that QTH sits on? It doesn't
say in the ad. His QRZ listing is a PO box so getting a street address to
look up was a no go for me. He also doesn't say whether the towers and
antennas come with the property but dismantling and moving them to FL seems
cost prohibitive to me. Naturally, that question can be answered with an
email to him.

The link in his ad to pictures has an extra space in it. The correct link
is: https://kh7xs.shutterfly.com/pictures/39

The direct link to his ad on eham is
https://www.eham.net/classifieds/results/60 and as of now, his ad is at the
top of that page.

Now we know why Bill always has such a great signal on this side of the
Pacific!

Hi,

Bill, KH7XS/K4XS, reports that he's moving back to Florida and has put his
Hawaii QTH up for sale.

"The listing is on eham under ham homes for sale.  In the ad is a link to
lots of pics of the place.  I'd appreciate if you would pass the word around
on this to the club.  As you know the station plays like gangbusters and
would be suitable for SO, MS or maybe even M2.  I really would like to sell
to a ham."

Bill's e-mail address is: cqtestk4xs at aol.com
