Comments:
I use this and other Sprints to try out new roving locations.
Good turnout from SCCC, especially in the first 30 minutes.
Started out at Diamond Bar Center DM13 with about 95 degree heat, but good
breeze.
Made 12 QSOs in 30 minutes, and knew it was going to be slow after that, so I
hit the road.
Went out to the top of Haven Ave in Rancho Cucamonga, that I thought I had
scouted out fairly well. Unfortunately, the place I wanted to go was closed
because of
fire danger. I found a parking spot with a sign that said "No Stopping 5AM
to 5PM". Since it was 5:15PM I was good. I set up my moxon and started to
set up my radio, when a Rent-A-Cop appeared. She told me there was no parking
at this spot, and there was no parking allowed, except for residents. I told
her about the sign, and she said "Yeah, that sign is wrong, and needs to be
changed." I could have probably argued my case with the Rancho Cuc police,
but that would have taken time away from the contest. So I moved probably 500
feet down in elevation to a parking lot that kinda worked. Met a ham Bob K6AII
who saw me and stopped by.
Finished in DM03 in a parking lot in Huntington Beach for DM03. Quit 30 minutes
early, because only 3 people were on. No DM14 other than me in the contest, as far as I know.
73,
Tim N6GP/R
P.S. Made one FT4 QSO. That is progress. Please, if you must use digital for local contacts in Sept VHF, lets use FT4!
