Antenna: Inductively loaded 65 foot sloper below 5 el 10m yagi
I wasn't planning to be active as we had a road trip planned for Saturday
and
Sunday. Friday morning I decided to raise my 5 el 10 meter yagi in
anticipation
of the ARRL 10M Contest. In a weak moment I hooked up my 160 sloper below
the
yagi and raised the antenna to 60 feet. I started listening on 160 at 21z
and
there were no signals although the SWR was good. I came back at 22:30z and
the
band was full of signals. Amazingly I was able to work the east coast
while it
was still bright out here. I played around for about 3 1/2 hours and
pulled the
switch. I only worked one ORG station during that time. I woke up about 3
am
Sat AM and decided to put in an hour before we hit the road. I felt
conditions
were pretty good compared with other years. W1 is always a difficult path
from
the west but was easy to work. I only missed RI, NNY, and SNJ (I missed
W2GD).
I heard KH6AQ who was answering CQ's but not mine. 73, Kurt W6PH
