Hi, Mike.
>From research but not personal experience, gasoline has about 30% higher
energy density than propane, so the volumes needed for a given run time will
differ. Also, propane generators reportedly do not run so well in cold
temperatures, and below 30F the regulators can freeze up. Gasoline units
have no such problem.
Propane is cleaner-burning, safer to store (absent tank leaks) and not
subject to degradation over time. Leaks, though, may be hard to detect
because propane is heavier than air and sinks to the ground or into drains
where it cannot dissipate..
Peak output is about ten percent lower on propane than on gasoline, and
propane typically costs up to twice what gasoline does per kW-hour.

Subject: [SCCC] EU2000i Propane/Gas Conversion
Since we are on the subject of the EU2000i. Does anyone on the list have
experience using the one of these tri-fuel conversion kits:

kit
I am just horrible about doing the regular maintenance required to keep
the carburetors on gasoline powered generators from gunking up (I am
just as bad if not worse with the care and feeding of rechargeable
batteries). Do those white propane tanks that you see on gas grills and
RVs lend themselves to long term storage? How about run time vs storage
volume consumed (i.e. does a propane tank that takes up the same
physical volume as a gasoline canister provide about the same generator
run time)?
Thanks and 73,
Mike W4EF...........................
