Believe it or not, it is September VHF time this weekend. We have huge obstacles in the form of weather to work around, though. "Tune for maximum safety, tune for maximum fun" should be our motto.
The remnants of Hurricane Kay could bring thunderstorms to our area this weekend, especially on Saturday.
As of this point in time, I have no specific plans how I plan to participate - either as a rover, or as a fixed, home station - or both.
What ever the case, I will be on the 4 lower bands 6 meters, 2m, 220 and 440 when it is safe. Remember that there is an analog only class for fixed stations. This rule change brought out a LOT of CW stations on 6m. People who like CW and SSB - please come back!
I generally only operate FT8 on 6m when trying to work distant stations.
My freqs: 50.130, 144.200, 432.1 SSB, 50.095 CW, and 146.52 .55 .58 2m FM 223.5 FM and 446.0 FM
IF I go roving I will do the 4 local grids starting at Signal Hill DM03 on Saturday, and possibly go to Grapevine on Sunday.
Remember you can work a rover again each time they go to a new grid. If I do separate entries as N6GP (home) and N6GP/R (rover) you can work me for both those callsigns.
I will leave it to your best judgement to determine when it is all clear to re-connect antennas after the storm has passed over. Maybe we have some former Midwesterners or W4s on here who can educate us.
Be safe, have fun. 73, de N6GP
