I'm about ready to get my V/UHF tower erected. I have modest antennas
for 6/2/220/432, but am still looking for 1296 and perhaps 2304 antlers.
I've been out of the V/UHF loop for decades; but last I heard, loopers
were the dominant gain antennas on those bands; is that still true, or
have things evolved and now there are better yagis (or perhaps something
else??)? I used to have a 39-element looper on 1296 and it was gangbusters.
As for equipment: I now have a Yaesu FT-991A which works FB for 6/2/432,
as well as a 3CX800 on 2m. But I'm lacking power on 6, 220 and 432 as
well as a good 220 transverter... not to mention tranverters for 1296
and 2304 (and maybe preamps for the lower bands, too). Anything
available out there, as well as some serious power for the higher bands
and 6m? I'm personally partial toward tubes since they're inherently
more efficient; so perhaps someone has recently changed to a solid-state
final and has an unused tube amplifier lying around for sale? Even an
AM-6154/6155 would work for 220 or 432. A converted SB200 or SB220 would
work for 6m. A GS-23 would be da bombe...
And no, I haven't abandoned plans for the HF bands... that's on another
tower that's now here and in the process of getting erected, too 8-D
