Yup; I bought from Fair even before I visited JJ Glass in downtown LA
when I went to take my General test in 1967 (I think I ordered one of
those "Beam Filters" for CW use). My mom would drop me off by the FCC's
office at the Federal Building in central downtown LA, I'd go in to take
my test, then walk al-l-l-l-l-l-l the way over to JJ Glass afterward.
(The Long Beach office had been closed shortly before then, IIRC, so I
never got to that one.)  'Twas a lonnnnggg walk in downtown LA for a 13
yr old kid. I don't rember encountering more than a couple or three
winos, even when I passed the LA shelter. At least Fair is still in
bizness; JJ Glass probly died sometime in the '80s, I dunno. I've been
to Fair's place a couple times way back in the day when I was in Ohio on
bizness. I bet today the entire way would be nothing but homeless tents
and "establishments" on the sidewalk...

Holey crappe... I just realized you sent that link for a reason, so I
went back to re-read it... They're CLOSING!! =8-D Ah shooey...
