[SCCC] Field Day - Please help out the locals

Its your opinion. Take away scoring and the event will cease to exist. While not everyone is a contester, everybody keeps score one way or another. You don’t have to take my word for it though. In order to bolster activity in Field Day the ARRL created the scoring model. It worked, for decades. Look at Winter Field Day. Its popularity after successive debacle with the scoring has major groups talking about not putting in the effort next year. The “its not a contest” minority won’t have anyone to talk to as they fail to learn from the past as well. Don’t fool yourself.

My point being that scoring is a mighty weak incentive.

Exactly—the scoring rules are the incentives to go to the field (or not)!

Changing the scoring rules back doesn't seem to be an effective way to
encouragee people back into the field. Scoring should not be the focus,
participation should be. You all have tunnel vision here.
