I had a similar problem to this. Not being DOS experienced I preferred =
to run SD from Windows but after about 9.65 it would not run. I solved =
it through this reflector when some one suggested making a floppy disc. =
this is the e mail instruction. I had someone do it for me and it works =
fine.
With the floppy in the machine on boot up it goes straight to DOS and =
gives me SD or SDV or SDCHECK options. This works on later version of =
SD.
Try it
SD de GM4SID
In spite of the following, SD runs perfectly if you exit windows:
START | SHUT DOWN | RESTART IN MS.DOS MODE.
However,=20
I run SD under MS-DOS 6.2 on my Packard Bell laptop.
I made a boot disk from DOS and added an AUTOEXEC.BAT file with a=20
path statement to 'concentrate its mind' to C:\DOS where DOS resides.
I also made a CONFIG.SYS file on the boot disk which includes=20
DEVICE=3DC:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS =20
DEVICE=3DC:\DOS\EMM386.EXE ON
Keep the disk in the floppy drive all the time as it needs to get to
the COMMAND.COM file. =20
With the disk in place, it boots up the C:\ quite quickly and then
its back to the good old ways!! I use the laptop on contests because
my desktop radiates birdies all over the place. The laptop doesn't.=20
Incidentially, if you use EDIT from windows, it aint as good as the
version in DOS 6.2. If you do a search on a file it can only search the
file from where you are to the end. The DOS version searches right=20
through the file. I renamed the Windows version EDITW.COM and=20
copied over EDIT.COM from DOS. Also copy QBASIC.exe over=20
because the DOS version of EDIT uses QBASIC. =20

I don't have an MS-DOS disk. I tried rebooting the computer in MS-DOS =
mode from W95 and also running W95 with only the prompt (pressing F8 =
when W95 is starting and selecting option 6 in the arising menu) but the =
behaviour is the same.

I had a similar problem few years ago, I solved it by running SD =
directly from DOS.

Subject: [SD-User] Delay using the keyer
I am using SD in CW contests with the keyer. My transceiver is =
connected to the computer trough the parallel port. One of the keyer =
memories is reserved for my answer when somebody answers my CQ. The code =
I use in this memory is as follows:
=20
#C #T #S
=20
The problem is that the system does a long three seconds pause =
after keying the logged call (#C). During the pause, the label "CW =
keyer, Esc to quit" is shown. After the pause, the 599 (#T) and the =
serial number (#S) are sent but, because the long pause, most of the =
operators think that I am having some problem and they send again their =
call.
=20
My computer is a laptop Toshiba Pentium 133 with 32 Mbytes RAM and =
Windows 95.
=20
Anybody knows how to fix the problem? All other functionalities =
work fine.
=20
Regards.
