V10.02 16 July 2003
SD for Windows.
SD is now a native Windows program. It runs with
a console (character-based) interface. In most
respects it looks and behaves exactly like the DOS
version which continues to be developed as SDDOS.
The Windows environment removes all memory
restrictions on SD, and it works on all versions
of Windows without the need for any specific
memory configuration - unlike SDDOS.
For CW, SD supports both internal keying via
serial ports, and external keying by WinKey (also
via serial ports). Parallel port keying is not
supported.
Note that, for Windows NT, 2000 and XP, SDDOS
will not run (it hangs) if you select parallel
keying with the PORTS command and then attempt
to use the keyer.
For more information about WinKey, please see
http://k1el.tripod.com/wkinfo.html. WinKey
integrates paddle support - just tap the paddle
to interrupt any message from the computer.
To toggle between logging mode and keyboard mode,
use Alt-K rather than Ctrl as before. Alt-K has
always been a valid option in SDDOS.
When using the internal keyer, some portables
expand the first character in a message - it
seems they take a while to "waken up", and it's
especially noticeable when the character is a
dot. The PTT command sets any necessary delay
before sending a message - any value from 0 to
999 milliseconds. Within SD, this forces the
processor into a hard loop, before keying,
which fixes the problem.
For internal keying, callsign type-ahead is
improved and you can keep adding characters.
They are displayed immediately, and included
in the callsign sent, so long as you stay ahead
of the keyer. Callsign type-ahead is not yet
supported for WinKey.
Use the WINKEY command to select internal or
external keying. The WINKEY command. The default
is internal, with WINKEY=0 in the SDCONFIG.TXT
file. Internal keying maintains SDDOS's fine
control over spacing and weighting, including
Serial Padding Factor, and lets you vary the
speed of parts of each message. Please refer
to the notes on the CWZERO command for V9.67 -
September 2000.
The files created by SD and SDDOS are compatible,
and it makes no difference whether you reload a
log using SD or SDDOS. If you use the internal
keyer, and switch between SD and SDDOS, you'll
probably have to re-calibrate the keyer with the
CALIBRATE command.
By default, SD runs in a window. Use Alt-Enter
to toggle to and from full-screen mode. However,
you should first use the BORDER command to set
the Border to 0, as otherwise some computers
refuse to switch or may not display all rows and
columns correctly. The range of values for the
border is 0-3 with 1 as the default. If you have
problems with SD in full-screen mode, or it seems
to run slowly, run it in a window with the border
set to 1.
SDCHECK - Post-Contest Utilities.
SDCHECK is now a native Windows program with a
console (character) interface. In most respects
it looks and behaves exactly like the DOS version,
which continues to be developed as SDCHKDOS.
SDV - ZAP Command
The ZAP command deletes the most recently logged
QSO, and resets points and multiplier totals as
appropriate. Please refer to V9.96 release notes
for more information.
SDV - Squares Worked.
F3, showing squares worked, now displays up to
64 squares (the maximum capacity of the window),
rather than the previous maximum of 35.
SDI - IOTA Contest.
Updated SDIOTA.CTY and IOTA.REF files supplied.
SDI scores correctly even if these files are not
up-to-date, but everyone prefers to have the
latest information.
SDICHECK - the ADIF export option truncated the
last character of the IOTA Reference - Fixed.
The Text export option omitted the IOTA Ref.
Fixed.
The Multiplier List option does not work.
I've removed it temporarily.
SD - RSGB Field Day.
Updated to score /MM and /AM stations as mobiles
in their home country.
SDCHECK:
EU Sprint - Cabrillo support added.
JIDX Contest - Cabrillo output updated for DX
entrants.
