I've found SD's internal keyer works well on an old machine with
Windows 95, but is highly unpredictable with XP & probably isn't worth
relying on. Somewhere between the two, Microsoft decided that port
timing should not be left under the control of the programmer.

Depending on your budget, you don't need to build a Winkey, Microham
(amongst others) has a number of devices which are completely
compatible - I use their CW Keyer & it works fine with SD. It also has
the advantage of running both rig control and keyer from a single USB
port - which will help solve the next problem moving away from DOS - a
PC that still has a serial port on it!
