Hi all,
Worked alot of SECC'ers in the NAQP this weekend. Thanks for the q's and =
I hope everyone had fun.
This was my first effort as a SO2R. What a blast!! the numbers:
160 75 x 32
80 179 x 46
40 81 x 35=20
20 118 x 32
15 39 x 18
10 47 x 17
539 x 180 97K=20
I was only able to put in 6.5 hours and it wasn't the effort I had hoped =
for but a family obligation continued to drag on and on...I got on for =
almost the first 3 hours and then 5.5 off time and then the last 3.5 =
hours of the contest.
the 10/15 and 40 meter numbers are from the 2nd radio. The plan was to =
start on 20 as the run band and 10 as the mult band. I had a sked with =
KA9EKJ on 10 m at the start of the contest and I got into the shack =
right at the start instead of a bit before hand. Never heard Roger (Rod =
in the contest) on=20
10 or any band for that matter. The thought process was to move guys =
from 20 to whatever band the 2nd radio was on (10 or 15). What didn't =
help was my cranking the top 4L 20 rotor into the south stop and having =
it stick there. That antenna usually stays west and is the workhorse on =
20 m. I claim that I was the loudest SECC station in PY/LU this =
weekend. A real plus in a domestic contest.
the other reason I didn't start on 10 and 15 was I dont have enough =
antennas in the air that point in enough directions to handle that =
combination of bands. I also only have one 80 meter antenna and no 160 =
antenna up right now. The 80 meter loop was used on 160 but that =
combination left me S & P on
40 while CQ'ing on 80 or 160. Needed to have 160 and 80 antennas. =20
listening on 2 radios was easier than I thought. They layout is =
computers networked so each radio has its own =
computer/monitor/keyboard/paddles. I think this made it easier to track =
for a first time effort. I was either looking left at the run radio or =
right to the mult radio. I will need to add a lockout as I did get =
confused several time and call one guy while CQing on the other radio. =
With 2 radios, its very easy to do that as you hear a new one and want =
to jump in NOW. Timing of calling folks is another area that I need to =
work on. There were several times that I was calling someone on the 2nd =
radio and had a station on the first radio waiting a split second longer =
than necessary to get a QSL to his information.
Maybe with practice I'll get better.
This is my lowest score in a Jan NAQP in a long time but I'm happy with =
it because it became a learning event.
