W4AN used to advise to avoid taking off times in the critical 4-10pm 
window. This is when a lot of casual guys are on the air.

Be careful not to work 10 and 15 too hard early in the contest. You can 
find yourself missing some good conditions on the low bands if you run 
out of time too early.
