I have a TenTec Omni D that was one of Homers (DDY) last rigs. John , K4NGI
(aka AA4TT ) and Larmar Hill, W4BOL, got me into GSN in the early 60's. Some
of us teenagers formed the Ga Training Net on 3712 kc daily, and also had a
Phone net on 3830 or so on Sat mornings. By then I had 'sweet talked' my
grandmother into buying me a used HT 37 and HQ180 from W4WKP. W4RZL and
WA4POM in Columbus helped me with a few parts and I rigged up a 3 tube 813
amp. As soon as I turned 16-- Lamar had a Air Force Mars call waiting for me
and for several years my time was spent on those frequencies handling CW and
RTTY traffic from SE Asia. That was also about the time of the Arrl
incentive license deal and a lot of us were p----d that we could not work
the bottom end of the bands we had worked so hard to gain access to. So it
was easy to just work the Mars freqs and be content.

I feel fortunate in that I have known some fine gentleman and ladies thru
ham radio --- and to have experienced the lure and mistique of 'shortwave'.
I just don't think that hams of today can truly appreciate the hobby without
the warm glow of dial lamps and 807's etc. I have kept every rig I've owned
since my first home brew 6L6 in 1961 and hope to get them all out of storage
one day and operating again, so some of the new guys on the block can see
what they missed !!
