[SECC] NAQP Strategy

I thought I went to 40 too early (and then 80 and 160) I was concerned with
running out of stations to work but that doesn't seem to be the case.
N4GG had 96 more Q's on 80 meters than I had, several folks in the club had
100 more Q's on 40 meters (including K4TD who is 15 miles from me and I
didn't hear Rick at all in the contest). I also thought I had a big QSO
number on 160 but I see other stations beat me by 30 to 40 Q's on that band.

My 40 meter numbers are down due to my off time scheduling ( and a
basketball game that won't go away)

Once you leave 20 for 40 and 40 for 80 and 80 for 160, remember that you can
always go back. Best thing to do is to listen on a 2nd receiver if
possible. If not, and things have dropped below the hourly goal of QSO's you
want to make, do SOMETHING different that what you are currently doing.

if you have set a goal of 600 Q's and you are going to operate the full 10
hours of the contest and your last 10 rate meter has dropped below 60, its
time to look at what you are currently doing because if you keep it up, you
are not going to make your goal. Everybody likes to CQ but if CQ'ing isn't
keeping you at the desired pace, its time to S&P or change bands or take an
off time. If you had been CQ'ing and the rate dies quickly, listen around
your frequency to see if someone has moved in on you.

There was a great contest strategy link on the SECC Reflector a couple of
weeks ago. I can't find it now but it was to the Mad River Radio Club. Good
discussion of target audience, antennas and Sweepstakes stragety. NAQP is
much different due to the multipliers counting once per band and the ability
to work stations once per band.

>From the South, we can't expect to put up the same numbers the guys out west
do on 10 and 15 meters without some short skip. We can expect to beat them
on 20, 40, 80 and 160.

There are several others in the club who can offer an opinion on W4ATL's
specific question on when to go to 40 meters in the NAQP SSB test. I'd
guess around 2100Z.

Here's a question for the club, If you operated the entire contest, when
did you take your off times and knowing what you know now, would you change
those times if you could?
