Hi Dave... 1) Right click on My Computer; 2) Left click on Manage; 3) Under "Storage" select Disk Management; and then right click on the displayed drive whose letter you want to change. One of the options on the screen that will come up is "Change Drive Letter and Paths...". It will not let you make a new "F" drive if there already is one... so you sometimes have to assign a temporary letter to a drive, change the drive you want to be "F" then change the temp lettered drive to whatever you want it to be.

And while you're doing things in Manage, go to Device Manager then Universal Serial Bus Controllers and on to the USB Root Hubs. If you right click on each Root Hub, then Properties, you'll find a Power Management tab. Select this and you'll see a check-box saying: "Allow the cpu to turn off this device to save power". UN-check this box. USB devices attached to XP have a nasty habit of turning themselves OFF without warning at inopportune moments thanks to this. Having this checked as a default is a nasty, subtle little trick MS built into XP.
