I've gotta admit, you do take a different approach than others have in the
past! However, it is nice to see the reflector actually get used on a
regular basis. I can appreciate that Dxing demands a little more capital to
pursue, but you can, nevertheless, still pursue it on a budget.
While I was in college, I had great mentors like Mike Greenway, K4PI, and
Gary Poorman, K4VT, helped me build a great station. In fact, I managed to
install an eighty foot tower for almost nothing (the concrete was the most
costly item). There are some out there that would try and sell you their
old junk antennas and radios--just to benefit themselves--but the majority
of DXers understand that helping people pursue DX and contesting only
strengthens our hobby. But ok, let's promote going back to 2M FM....that
will help our diminishing band-space issues!!! Most of us know that
promoting DX and contesting is the only way to preserve our favorite past
time--otherwise, the cell phone companies, broadband, etc., WILL take our
band space. Remember, money talks, and our contributions as a
service-oriented hobby doesn't pull as much weight as it used to ( I hate to
say it, but I doubt any of us(DXers & Contesters), me included, care
anything about emergency/ volunteer work (I would expect to draw criticism
over that comment, but go ahead; go for it).
As to the comment on "stealing," you should have told whoever that
egotistical SOB to blow it out of his ass (yeah, that really sounds like
stealing.....good God, get real and GROW UP--I would be more than happy to
discuss this with whomever said it). Things break, and if someone doesn't
understand this, don't loan it out in the first place... However, I am just
one of those "F"'ing lawyers--what do I know!
I am not trying to advocate coming or going... do what you want, but call
these people out on their comments. There is no need in explaining
yourself, or your business. I had no idea that this was going on and it is
childish, elitist, crap!

I need to add one thing to this as a couple people have commented. I
am not leaving the reflector based upon Keith's one comment to the
reflector about me taking on a second job. I can handle comments like
that and I have great respect for Keith, he's a great guy.
The comments I am getting in private are a bit more harsh, here are some
quotes:
"You broke Chaz's rig, you better compensate him for this otherwise
you are stealing!"
"Time for you to get a new hobby buddy."
"You gotta pay if you wanna play the DX game, if not go back to 2M FM!"
I'm quite ashamed and disgusted by comments like this regardless of
who they are said to, why would I want to be associated with people
like this? I realize that this is most likely just a few bad seeds
amongst the majority of fine OM's but enough is enough.
As Keith suggested, I'd get a second job if I wasn't already working
70 to 80 hours a week trying to get a relatively new small business
off the ground. My schedule is extremely sporadic and it would
therefore be unreasonable for anyone to hire me part time at this
moment. People can't sit in a cubicle all day and compare jobs to the
small business owner struggling to get a new company off the ground,
especially when many times I am at the airport at midnight, after
working a 10 hour shift in the store, importing a livestock shipment
and have to be wided eyed and bushy tailed a few hours later to greet
customers with a smile on my face.
