Yes, the return on confirmations I get for contests is a lot higher  
than through casual QSOs. (Of course, I work a lot more contest QSOs  
anyway)

20 to 25 % is a good return rate.

I think that's always been the story, even before LoTW.

I just worked a handful of contacts in WPX Phone on 80m, and was  
delighted to get a confirmation from TO5A for a new band/country.
