Club Coordinators please send a note out or forward this to your club
reflectors. The SSB Sprint is this Saturday night. Activity in the
past few SSB Sprints has declined. Part of this lack of activity has
been due to competing contests and poor band conditions. The fact is we
need more activity in this event. More activity in the SSB Sprint will
make it more fun for everyone.

Let’s make things different this time. Band conditions for the CW
portion were very good and the fact that there is very little in the way
of competing contests this weekend should make it fun for everyone (see
The Contest Calendar at http://hornucopia.com/contestcal/weeklycont.php).

I challenge all coordinators to try and form teams for this weekend to
encourage activity. Encourage contesters to join teams and get on the
air. We all know it is SSB but it is still a contest and it can be fun
with enough activity.

Suggested frequencies:

14150 to 14300

7125 to 7250

3760 to 3820 excluding 3790 to 3800 (DX Window)

When first calling a CQ please check the frequency and avoid other QSOs.

Here are some advantages of a sprint contest.

Simple exchange:

CONTACT NUMBER, starting w/ ONE, and your NAME AND STATE. (Contact
number only obstacle from normal QSO).

Great way to try and work AS MANY STATES AS POSSIBLE in only 4 hours long.

The sprint is a different kind of contest.

Fast moving but plenty of room for everyone.

A full commitment takes only 4 hours on a Saturday night.

Learn the names of the contesters you work.

Enter for as long as you like. The more the merrier.

Plenty of ways to compete - High Power, Low Power, QRP.

160 Meter Antenna not required. (Only 3 bands-20, 40 and 80)

Form a team and have even more fun.

Rewards good S&P skills.

Set a new record for your state.

Mike W9RE

Now that you have heard the pep talk from Mike, W9RE, please contact
K4BAI, k4bai at att.net, to be on a team for this event. So far, we have
K4BAI, W4AN (by W1BO), K0EJ, and KU8E. I will register the team(s)
before the Sprint starts and will send out a confirmation so that you
will know what team you are on and who the other team members are. 73,
John, K4BAI.
