This Week's Contests:
This weekend will be the annual CW Open Contest. We will have at least
one team. I will register the team(s) on Friday afternoon before the
first session starts at 8 PM Friday night. There are three sessions: 8
PM to Midnight EDT Friday. 8 AM to Noon Saturday EDT. 4 PM to 8 PM
Saturday afternoon. 160-10M CW. The exchange is just serial # and
name. There are nice prizes sponsored by an equipment manufacturer.
This is one of the big CW events of the year. We can have teams of two
to ten members, but time is limited. Who will join K4BAI, KU8E, K2SX,
N4EEV and possibly W4OC? You do not have to be within any "circle" or
even be a member of SECC. Invite your friends. Drop me an e-mail ASAP
and let me know you'd like to be on a team and give me an estimate of
the time you can devote to it and what power level you will be running
so I can set up the team(s) as strong as possible.
1. QRP Fox Hunt. Last of the summer season. 0100-0230Z Friday
(Thursday night local date). 20M. Two foxes will be calling between
14050 and 14070 kHz. They are scheduled to be NK9G, Rick, WI and WC7S,
Dale, WY. Based on the previous few nights this week, we should have a
good chance at both foxes. 5W maximum power and do not spot the foxes'
frequencies. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power. Work only the two foxes.
2. NCCC RTTY Sprint. 0145-0215Z Friday (Thursday night local date).
100W maximum power. One/one kHz QSY rule. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY.
Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Look around 080 kHz and up from
1805 kHz.
3. NCCC NS Ladder. 0230-0259Z Friday (Thursday night local date). 100W
maximum power. One/one kHz QSY rule. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M CW.
Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. 15M was open at the start last
week, so take a listen there. Look around 040 kHz and up from about
1815 kHz.
4. G3ZQS Memorial Straight Key Contest. 2300Z Friday to 2300Z Sunday.
80-10M CW. Exchange: RST + SPC + FISTS CW Club # or power. Use a
straight key to be eligible for awards. There doesn't seem to be a
power limit for this contest as there is for the quarterly FISTS
Sprints. Look around 058 kHz on each band.
5. All Asian DX Contest, SSB. 0000Z Sat to 2400Z Sun. 80-10M Phone.
Exchange: RS + 2 digit age (or "00" for YLs). Talk about a contest
that can make you feel old. Or you may just admire those still
contesting at advanced ages.
6. Russian RTTY World Wide Contest. 0000Z to 1159Z Saturday. 80-10M
RTTY. Exchange: RST + CQ Zone or Russian 2-letter Oblast.
7. CW Open. 0000-0359Z Sat (Fri night local date); 1200-1559Z
Saturday; 2000-2359Z Saturday. Three separate segments. Exchange: QSO
# and Name. QSO each station once per segment. There is a team
competition. See comments about this above.
8. Colorado QSO Party. 1300Z Sat to 0400Z Sun. 160-UHF CW, Ph, Dig.
Exchange: Name + SPC or Colorado County.
9. IARU Region One (Europe) and RSGB Field Days, SSB. 1300Z Sat to
1259Z Sun. 160-10M SSB. Exchange: RS + serial #.
10. Tennessee QSO Party. 1800Z Sun to 0300Z Mon. 160-UHF CW, PH, Dig.
Exchange: RS(T) + SPC or TN county.
11. Michigan QRP Club Labor Day Sprint. 2300Z Monday to 0300Z Tuesday.
160-6M CW. 5W maximum power. Exchange: RST + SPC + MiQRP # or power.
12. Adventure Radio Society Spartan Sprint. 0100-0300Z Tuesday (Monday
night local date). 80-10M CW. 5 watts maximum power. Exchange: RST,
SPC, Power.
13. Phone Fray. Every Tuesday night. 0230-0259Z Wed. 15, 20, 40, 80,
160M SSB. 100W maximum power. Exchange: Name + SPC. Multiplier count
per band and you can use a NAQP SSB contest module. Suggested
frequencies are: 21325, 14250, 7175, 3800, and 1875 kHz.
14. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Every Wednesday local date. 1300Z,
1900Z, 0300Z (Thursday UTC date). 160-10M CW. Three separate one-hour
mini-tests. Exchange: Name + CWOps # or SPC. Look around 028 to 045
kHz on higher bands and up from 1815 kHz on 160M.
Hope everyone has a nice week and holiday weekend and a lot of QSOs. 73,
John, K4BAI.
