“Joe Taylor has *never* called his modes "low power" modes - he refers to them specifically as *weak signal* modes.”
- a snippet from a private e-mail to me
First of all, I hope no one feels that I was calling them out or playing the “Toss ‘em Under a Trailways” game with my earlier message. I was the ignorant one. Somewhere along the way I heard, and believed, that the JT collection of digital emissions were to be used on the HF bands with as little power as possible. Every time I turned the wick up to 45W, I felt pangs of guilt and shame for such an unbridled and decadent action.
All this time I’ve been missing the ME/AF/AS stations who I can decode at -20 to -10 but who can’t hear me because I kept my ATNO PO maxed out at 70W.
I guess it’s time to make a resolution for the New Year -
“Don’t let a new one get away while you’ve still got gerbils that aren’t in harness!”
That said, if you should see me on the waterfall and I’m spattering or otherwise being lid-like, please feel free to call me out because as we all know, “with great power comes great responsibility.”
Thanks to all for both public and private replies. I appreciate the advice and counsel.
Scott
