I have said to some of you that I didn't think I would be at the
Huntsville, AL hamfest this year. Our plans changed today and KU8E,
Jeff and I will attend the hamfest August 16-18 this year. There will
be contest forums and the ACG will have a lunch meeting on Saturday. The
North Alabama DX Club will have a banquet on Saturday night with W5ZN as
keynote speaker. DXCC cards can be checked. I need to take up my Z6
(Kosovo) QSL for a new one. I hope to see a lot of you there. 8.
I will still register teams for NAQP SSB that weekend, please let me
know if you will be able to be QRV and want to join a SECC team.
Location and club membership are not requirements to be on a team. Hope
to work many of you this coming weekend in NAQP CW. See the end of this
message for a few weeks forward preview. 73, John, K4BAI for
SECC.
This Week's Contests:
1. CWOps Club CWT Mini Test. Every Wednesday. 1300Z, 1900Z, 0300Z
(Thursday UTC date). Three separate one hour mini-tests. 160-10M CW.
Exchange: Name + CWOps# or SPC. Look around 025 to 050 kHz on each
band, but lower on 160M.
2. QRP Fox Hunt. Thursday local date. 0100-0230Z Friday. Two QRP
foxes will be calling between 14050 and 14070 kHz. 5W max power.
Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power. Work only the two foxes and do not
spot their frequencies. The two foxes this week are AJ1DM, JOHN, RI and
N7CQR, DAN, OR. These two were foxes earlier and N7CQR was workable
from here and some GA stations worked AJ1DM (but I missed him).
3. NCCC RTTY Sprint. Every Thursday night local date. 0145-0215Z
Friday. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. 100W max power. One/one kHz QSY
rule. Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Same band dupes OK after
one intervening QSO. Look around 080 to 082 kHz and up from 1805 kHz.
4. NCCC NS Sprint. Every Thursday night local date. 0230-0259Z
Friday. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M CW. 100W max power. One/one kHz QSY
rule. Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. No same band dupes allowed.
Look around 039-045 kHz and up from 1815 kHz.
5. 10-10 International Club Summer Contest, SSB. 10M SSB. 0001Z Sat
to 2359Z Sun. Exchange: Name + 10-10 # (or "0") + SPC. If you hear eS
signals on 10M, you might want to check 6M for similar skip. We are
getting close to the end of the 6M Es season and it would be fun to make
some more 6M QSOs.
6. North American QSO Party, CW. 1800Z Sat to 0559Z Sun. 10 hours max
for single ops. Exchange: name + S/P/DC/NAC or just name for dx
outside NA and KH6. 160-10M SSB, Mults (S/DC/P/NAC) count per band.
Team competition. Two to five member teams may be registered before the
contest begins. Contact WA1FCN for ACG teams and K5KG for FCG teams.
7. ARRL 222 mHz & Up Distance Challenge. 1800Z Sat to 1800Z Sun. 222
mHz and up any mode. Exchange: six character grid squre.
8. South African Relay League Phone Contest. 1400-1700Z Sun. 80, 40,
20M SSB. Exchange: RS + serial #.
9. Adventure Radio Society August Spartan Sprint. 0100-0300Z Tuesday
(Monday night local date). 80-10M CW. 5W max power. Exchange: RST +
SPC + power.
10. Phone Fray. Every Tuesday night local date. 0230-0259Z Wednesday.
15, 20, 40, 80, 160M SSB. 100W max power. Exchange: Name + SPC. Use
the NAQP Phone module in your logger. No QSY rule. Mults count per
band. Look around 21325, 14250, 7175, 3800, and 1875 kHz.
Looking forward. The weekend of August 10/11 brings the annual DARC
Worked All Europe contest CW with its unusual QTC feature that you can
use or not. Lot of activity can be expected from Europe, where ham
radio seems to be more popular than ever. Also the MD-DC QSO Party. The
following weekend August 17/18 is the NAQP SSB with its team
competition. The next weekend August 24/25 is HI QSO Party, W/VE
Islands QSO Party, YO (Romania) DX HF Contest, and KS QP and SCC RTTY.
On the split weekend, Aug 31-Sept 1 will be TN QP, CO QP, and the new
Digital DX Contest
The Hiram Percy Maxim birthday celebration (founder of ARRL)will run
August 31 to Sept 8.
In Sept, on 7/8 weekend will be the CWOpen (with team competition), NA
Sprint CW with team competition, Russian WW RTTY Contest, and All Asian
Phone and NE QSO Party.
On 9/13 and 14, we will ahve the annual Alabama QSO Party, plus TX QSO
Party, FOC QSO Party, and Sept VHF Contest (with club aggregate score
competition).
If you want to be on a SECC team for NAQP Phone, CWOpen, NA Sprint CW,
actually any NA Sprint or NA QSO Party, let me know and we will see what
teams we can register.
A lot of reasons to get on the air and make contacts. Hope everyone has
a nice week and weekend.
