In addition, the Thirteen Colonies Special Event ran for seven days and
a lot of hams from our areas operated from the former colonies of GA and
SC and hams from all over worked those in the former colonies.
This Week's Contests:
1. QRP Fox Hunt. Thursday night local date. 0100-0230Z Friday. Two
QRP foxes will be hiding between 14050 and 14070 kHz. They are N0UR,
JIM, MN and NC4RT, RANDY, NC. Will take unusual conditions for us to
work Randy, but we should have a good shot at Jim. Exchange: RST, SPC,
Name, Power. Work only the two foxes and do not spot their frequencies.
5W max power.
2. NCCC RTTY Sprint. Every Thursday night local date. 0145-0215Z
Friday. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. 100W max power. Exchange: both
calls, #, RST, SPC. One/one kHz QSY rule. Same band dupes OK after one
intervening QSO. Look around 082 kHz on the higher bands and up from
1805 kHz on 160M.
3. NCCC NS Sprint. Every Thursday night local date. 0230-0259Z
Friday. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M CW. 100W max power. Exchange: both
calls, #, name, SPC. One/one kHz QSY rule. No same band dupes
permitted. Look around 040-046 kHz on the higher bands and up from 1815
kHz on 160M.
4. FISTS Summer Unlimited Sprint. 0000-0400Z Saturday (Friday night
local date). 80-10M CW. 100W max power. Exchange: RST, SPC, Name,
FISTS# or power. Look around 058 kHz on each band.
5. Straight Key Century Club Weekend Sprintathon. 1200Z Sat to 2400Z
Sun. 24 hours max operating time. Use a mechanical key. Exchange:
RST, SPC, Name, SKCC# or "NONE." 160-6M CW. Look around 050-060 kHz on
most bands and lower on 160M.
6. International Amateur Radio Union High Frequency Contest. 1200Z Sat
to 1200Z Sun. 160-10M CW, SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + ITU zone or national
radio organization HQ abbreviation. This is a big one that has the WRTC
component in the years of WRTC competitions (next in Italy in 2022).
There will be high power, big antenna entries from HQ stations around
the world. I expect to be operating remotely the station on Bonaire as
PJ4A, probably CW only. A list of HQ abbreviations and expected calls
is on the internet at https://bit.ly/itudtb.
7. QRP ARCI International Summer Home Brew Sprint. 2000-2300Z Sunday.
160-10M CW. Exchange: RST + SPC + ARCI# or power. There are power
multipliers and bonus points for use of home brew gear and portable
operation.
8. 4 States QRP Group Second Sunday Sprint. 0000-0200Z Monday (Sunday
night local date). 160-10M CW/SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + SPC + 4S# or
power. Most activity seems to be around 14060, 7122, and 3564 kHz. Max
power: 5W CW. 10W SSB. Call "CQ 4S."
9. Worldwide Sideband Activity Contest. 0100-0159Z Tuesday (Mon night
local date). 160-6M SSB. Exchange: RS + OM, YL, Youth, or Youth YL.
This is a new week night activity that has been very popular. Best
chance to meet and encourage new youth operators on SSB.
10. Phone Fray. Every Tuesday night local date, 0230-0259Z Wed. 100W
max power. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M SSB. Exchange: Name + SPC. You can
use your NAQP SSB module for logging. Look around 21325, 14250, 7175,
3800, and 1875 kHz.
11. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Every Wednesday local date. Three
separate one-hour mini-tests. 1300Z, 1900Z, 0300Z. 160-10M CW.
Exchange: Name + CWOps# or SPC. Look around 025 to 050 kHz on the
higher bands and much lower on 160M.
12. North American QRP CW Club monthly Sprint. 20, 40, 80M CW. 5W max
power. Exchange: RST + SPC + NAQCC# or power. Look around 14060,
7030-7045, 3560 kHz. This one is usually very popular with a lot of
activity. Double your score for use of a hand key and 1 1/2 times your
score for using a bug.
Hope everyone has a nice week and weekend and a lot of QSOs. IARU HF
will be very popular this weekend, possibly a little more activity on CW
than SSB, but the national club HQ stations will usually be QRV on both
modes.
