NOTE: I am seeking team members for SE Sprint Coalition teams for the
NCJ North American Sprint Saturday night for four hours. We can have
teams from two to five members and you do not need to belong to any
particular club or live in any particular geographical area to be on a
team. See the note under This Week's Contests below at #16. Please let
me know ASAP if you would like to be on a team for this one as I hope to
register the teams Friday evening. Thanks.

This Week's Contests:
1. SKCC Sprint Europe (SKSE). 2000-2200Z Thursday (just starting as I
am typing this). 160-6M CW. Use a mechanical key. Exchange: RST, SPC,
Name, SKCC# or "NONE."
2. NCCC RTTY Sprint. Every Thursday evening local date. 0145-0215Z
Friday. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M RTTY. 100W power limit. One/one kHz QSY
rule. Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. Same band dupes OK after
one intervening QSO. Look around 082 kHz and up from 1805 kHz.
3. NCCC NS Sprint Ladder. Every Thursday evening local date.
0230-0259Z Friday. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M CW. 100W power limit. One/one
kHz QSY rule. Exchange: both calls, #, name, SPC. No same band dupes
permitted. Look around 040-046 kHz and up from 1815 kHz. This is great
place to practice for the NA Sprint Saturday night. All rules the same
except the 100 limit and the QSY rules is 5/1 in the NAS. Also, the
Caribbean islands in South America count as mults, but they do not in
the NAS. In N1MM+, look for the program called: "Sprint NS." Do not
use the "Sprint Ladder" program since that counts same band dupes with
one intervening QSO.
4. QRP Fox Hunt. 80M. 0200-0330Z Friday (Thursday night local date).
Two QRP Foxes will be QRV between 3550 and 3570 kHz. 5W max power.
Exchange: RST, SPC, Name, Power. Foxes usually start out split
listening up. Great way to practice your split operating. Foxes this
week are KZ5J, PAT, TX and N9AW, JERRY, WI. Both good foxes and should
be workable from GA. Work only the two foxes and do not spot their
frequencies.
5. K1USN Slow Speed Test. Friday 2000-2100Z. 20, 40, 80, 160M CW.
Exchange: Name + SPC. Maximum speed is 20 WPM. This is the first time
they have run one on Friday afternoon. These can be a lot of fun. No
pressure. Anyone who has been reluctant to "run" in contests, can get
some slower speed practice. Look around 029 to 042 kHz on each band
(except 1805 to 1820 on 160M).
6. Vermont QSO Party. First QSO Party of the year. There will be a
year long QSO party competition again this year. 48 hours of the
weekend UTC. 160M - UHF. Any mode (See rules for FT exchanges).
Exchange: RST + S/P or VT county. Mults are VT counties and VT Club
Stations per mode.
7. 10-10 Winter Contest, SSB. 48 hoiurs of weekend UTC. 10M Phone.
Exchange: Name + 10-10# (or "0" if you don't have one) + SPC.
8. Eur Asia HF Championship. 08Z top 17Z Sat. 160-10M CW, Ph. 6
hours maximum operating time. Exchange: RS(T) + 6 digit grid square.
(If you don't know your grid square, you can probably find it under your
call in qrz.com--at least the grid square where your mailing address is.)
9. Mexico RTTY International Contest. 80-10M RTTY. 1200Z Sat to 2359Z
Sun. Exchange: RST + serial # or Mexican State (or Federal District).
Work everyone.
10. F9AA Cup, CW. 1200Z Sat to 1200Z Sun. 80-10M + 2M CW. Exchange:
RST + serial #. Bonus points for QSOs with F8URC.
11. Minnesota QSO Party. 1400Z to 2400Z Sat. 160-10M CW/Dig (no FT),
Phone. Exchange: Name + SP or MN county two-letter abbreviation.
12. FYBO (Freeze Your Buns Off) Winter QRP Sprint. 1400Z to 2400Z
Saturday. 160-10M CW, SSB, Digital. 5W max power. Exchange: RS(T) +
SPC + Name + Power + Temperature at your operating location (F). Bonus
points for QSOs with NQ7RP.
13. British Columbia QSO Party. 1600Z Sat to 0359Z Sunday; 1600-2359Z
Sunday. 160-10M CW, SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + S/P/DX or BC District.
Bonus points for QSOs with VA7ODX.
14. FISTS CW Club Saturday Sprint. 1600-1800Z Sat. 80-10M CW. 100W
maximum power. Exchange: RST + SPC + Name + FISTS# (or "0"). Look
around 058 kHz on each band. Call is usually "CQ FS."
15. European Union DX Contest. 1800Z Sat to 1800Z Sun. 160-10M CW.
SSB. Exchange: RS(T) + ITU zone or 4 character European region. Work
everyone. This is a new one and has been highly publicized. They did
pick a busy weekend to add another contest to.
16. NCJ North American Sprint, CW. 2300Z Sat to 0300Z Sunday. Note
this is one hour earlier than it has been. 20, 40, 80M CW. Exchange:
both calls, #, name, SPC. One/five kHz QSY rule. There is a team
competition. I am registering teams for Southeast Sprint Coalition. So
far, I have: K4BAI, W8FN, KU8E, W4WF, N4OX, WF4W, K2SX, NK4O. I'd like
to get at least two mor to have two five-member teams. Will register a
third team if there is enough interest. THIS IS ONE OF THE BIG DOMESTIC
CONTESTS FOR THE YEAR AND YOU WILL GET TO WORK THE TOP CONTESTERS ON CW
IN NORTH AMERICAN. Lots of fun. If you need practice on the exchange
and QSY rule, try the NCCC NS Sprint on Thursday night. PLEASE LET ME
KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE ABOUT TEAM MEMBERS AS I WANT TO REGISTER THE
TEAMS Friday.
17. FOC Marathon. If you are listening on CW this weekend, you may
hear stations calling "CQ FOC." This is the First Class Operators club
annual "Marathon." It runs 2100Z Friday to 2100Z Sunday on 160-10M CW.
It is a closed contest, open only to members, of which there are about
500 around the world. The FOC also has two annual FOC QSO Parties and
those are open to non-members.
18. K1USN Slow Speed Test (SST). Same as #5 above except the time is
0000-0059Z Monday (Sunday night local date).
19. WorldWide Side Band Activity Contest. Every Monday night local
date, 0100-0159Z Tuesday. 160-6M SSB. Exchange: RS + age/gender group
(OM, YL, YL YOUTH, YOUTH).
20. North American QRP CW Club February Sprint. 0130-0330Z Wed
(Tuesday night local date). 20, 40, 80M CW. 5W max power. Exchange:
RST + SPC + NAQCC# or power. Double your score for using a straight key
and 1 1/2 times your score for using a bug. This is the most popular
monthly QRP sprint contest and can be a lot of fun.
21. QRP Fox Hunt 40M. 0200-0330Z Wed (Tuesday night local date). Same
as #4 above except the frequencies are 7030 to 7050 kHz and the foxes
are N7CQR, DAN, OR and N4FP, WAYNE, FL. Conditions were very good on 40
this week for the fox hunt and maybe they will be as good next week.
Always a challenge to work OR on 40M QRP, but it should be possible.
Will be very unusual if the band is short enough to work N4FP in FL, but
you never know until you try.
22. Phone Weekly Test - Fray. 0230-0259Z Wed (Tuesday night local
date). 100W max power. 15, 20, 40, 80, 160M SSB. Exchange: Name +
SPC. mults count per band. You can use your NAQP SSB module for
logging. Look around 21325, 14250, 7175, 3800, and 1875 kHz.
23. CWOps Club CWT Mini Tests. Every Wed local date. Three separate
one-hour mini-tests. 1300Z, 1900Z, 0300Z (Thursday UTC date). 160-10M
CW. Exchange: Name + CWOps# or SPC. Look around 023 to 052 kHz on the
higher bands and up from about 1820 kHz on 160M.
Wow. What a contest weekend this will be! Hope everyone has a good week
and weekend and a lot of QSOs. I should mention that we lost a good
contester from our area this week. Jerry, N4NO, of Huntsville, AL. Not
this is Jerry, N4NO, not Greg K4NO.
73, John, K4BAI
