FWIW, the Clifton active antenna amp has a relay between it and the
antenna rod, which opens whenever it is powered off. There is also a
gas tube before the first transistors. Mine is mounted 4 feet off the
ground (at the base) under a weeping willow. Of course, just about any
6-band antenna will work too.
