1.) DISCUSSION OF SOLAR, SPACE & GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT CAN
IMPACT MF & HF RADIO WAVE PROPAGATION IN A NEGATIVE MANNER-

The daily sunspot number stayed above 100 for only two days and has now
slipped to 97. Yesterday there was some moderate to strong strength
east-west radio wave propagation openings on 10 meters in both hemispheres.

A long duration C3.7 solar flare occurred on Thursday September 27, 2012.
The solar flare released a coronal mass ejection (CME) which should arrive
at Earth on or around Sunday September 30th. The solar flare also triggered
an energetic proton storm greater than 10 MeV (10+0). The energetic proton
storm is causing absorption of RF signals via the D layer on 160-30 meters
on high latitude radio wave propagation paths (polar cap absorption) on the
dayside of Earth.

Also on the medium frequency (MF) band there exists the normal absorption of
RF signals in the D layer due to incoming cosmic rays and hard x-rays. Also
the background x-ray flux is running in the C range so there is some
additional absorption of RF signals in the D layer.
