DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER-
For Wednesday February 13, 2013
Solar activity is high as far as the emergence of the number of new sunspot
groups. Currently there are 6 new un-numbered sunspot groups and 3 existing
numbered sunspot groups.
Solar activity is moderate as far as the number of new solar flares, 5
occurred. The largest solar flare in magnitude was a very small in size
B8.0, associated with sunspot group #11670, at that time located at
approximately N17W41.
The daily solar flux index (SFI) has been above 100 for 14 consecutive days,
currently at 100.3.
The daily sunspot number (SSN) has languished below 100 for 29 consecutive
days, currently (NOAA) at 26.
The geomagnetic field has been active for the second day in a row with the
Kp (planetary) index as high as a 4. As collected by Potsdam Germany WDC the
3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals were 33111134. As collected by NOAA/SWPC the
3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals were 22111134.
The Dst ranged between +6 and -9. So far today through 1400 UTC the Dst has
been as negative as -47.
Via SOHO the maximum and minimum solar wind values were 305-381 km/s.
The maximum background x-ray value was B1.6.
