W4HM DISCUSSION OF DAILY SOLAR SPACE AND GEOMAGNETIC WEATHER-

For Thursday February 21, 2013

Solar activity is low as far as the emergence of the number of new sunspot 
groups. Currently there is 1 new un-numbered sunspot group and 7 existing 
numbered sunspot groups.

Solar activity is low as far as the number of solar flares, 4 occurred. The 
largest solar flare in magnitude was a small in size C2.5, which occurred at 
approximately N10W58 and associated with sunspot group #11678.

#11678 has a beta-gamma-delta twisted magnetic signature capable of 
producing medium in size M class and large in size X class solar flares. 
However it will rotate around the western limb of the Sun later today UTC.

The daily solar flux index (SFI) has been at or above 100 for 21 consecutive 
days, currently at 109.6.

The daily sunspot number (SSN) had been at or above 100 for 2 consecutive 
days, but per my forecast it has slipped below 100 again, currently (NOAA) 
at 75.

The geomagnetic field had been quiet for 2 consecutive days with the Kp 
(planetary) index in the 0-2 range. However the Kp reached a 3 (unsettled 
geomagnetic conditions) for 1 3 hour period. As collected by Potsdam Germany 
WDC the 3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals were 32211122. As collected by 
NOAA/SWPC the 3 hour Kp (planetary) intervals were 22211122.

The Dst ranged between +4 and -19.

Via SOHO the maximum and minimum solar wind values were 320-424.

Via NOAA the maximum background x-ray solar flux value was B2.7.
