Omni 6 noise blanker

My Omni 6 has a strange noise blanker problem.

I noticed it while receiving a strong cw signal on 80 meters.
The other stations dots sounded slurred and chopped.
I was able to eliminate this by turning UP the blanker.

I fired up my standby rig and transmitted a few dits. With the Omni's
blanker turned fully ccw, the dits were completely chopped off, nil,
silent, zilch etc.

Turning the blanker up to about 1/2 or fully clockwise, it sounded great.

Seems backwards to me. The factory had no idea why this would happen.

Any ideas out there?
