Hi Folks... just a small comment. I recently sold my OMNI VI for personal
reasons... and fully intend to get another sometime, perhaps next year. I
have had-sitting on my shelf-a Signal One CX-7A (I 'do' QRP and Boat
Anchors.) It is the only rig I have ever tried that either equals or even
beats the wonderful breakin performance of my OMNI VI. You were discussing
35wpm... BOTH the OMNI VI and the Signal One cause the received audio
interruption by sending a dit (or more-of course) to seem like simply a
nice and loud station on frequency... no overload, no thumping, just full
copy between characters-or better. (At higher speeds it seems to me that
the idea of copying between dits becomes a meaningless term.)
The Signal One CX-7A was ** WAY ** ahead of its time in features and
performance. It has fully dual frequency receive, with a fader between
either RCVR A and RCVR B that allows any weighting between the two. Such
2-frequency receive performance is the ONE area where my OMNI VI is totally
beaten! (*** Are you reading this TT? ***) The remaining features and
characteristics are either equal or excelled by the OMNI VI... especially
filtering. The Signal One is nice, but NOTHING compared to my 'VI. I can
make up a lot of it with my NIR-12, but it simply is not the same. Front
end on the 'VI was better (!!!) as well-which is quite a compliment.
So, breakin-wise, NOTHING else (current) is an OMNI VI... and at least if
one has to make do, I do have the OTHER rig that does it very well!!!
Happy Holidays All.
