[TenTec] Looking for Info on Omni VI Product Detector Mod

Hi Everyone,

Several years ago G4PKT developed a product detector mod for the Omni VI
to improve the within passband performance of the receiver. This mod was
centered around replacing the original product detector with a SL6640
mixer IC and associated circuitry on a "daughter board" that was mounted
and wired onto the Omni VI's IF/AF board. The mod appears fairly easy
to perform based on the specs and written material I obtained from
G4PKT.

Would anyone having done this mod please care to share with me your
experience as relates to improved, neutral or degraded performance in
the Omni VI. Would appreciate comments regarding this mod from anyone
who has ACTUALLY done it or had it done for them by someone else.

I have done alot of research on this mod. I realize that TT does NOT
recommend it being done and that the factory changed several component
values in the design of later Omni's to address this issue. I can
readily understand their concerns about aftermarket mods to their
original design.

Nevertheless I am interested in receiving any first-hand reports from
readers of the reflector about the G4PKT product detector.
