The short answer is that it doesn't work reliably with any program I
tried.
The longer answer is that it will work up to a point with
HYPERLOG, but the Omni-V interface is not the same as more recent
radios, (Omni-VI etc) which do work with logging programs. There is a
fairly simple program around which gives some control of the Omni-V
via a DOS interface - it might run under Windows (I have not tried
it) but again, I found it was not stable enough. OK, the software was
probably fine, but I have been told that the lack of handshaking on
the Omni-V interface makes controlling the beast at best tricky. I
guess that if you cannot actually control the interface (it seems to
be free-running !) you cannot actually be sure what the status is at
any time when you want to send an instruction to it.
(I'm sure someone can come up with a more scientific explanation that
that).
In the case of HYPERLOG I have been beta testing the Professional
version for some time now. I routinely use it to read the Omni-V
frequency directly into my logbook, but I would not use it in the
heat of a contest to control the rig. Any other supported radio, yes,
but the Omni-V, no. I stress that this is an interface problem
specific to the Omni-V.
If anyone has a better answer then I'm ready willing and able to test
it ! In fact if there is a program around which really does overcome
the problems I have experienced, then I'll go out and buy it.
