[TenTec] Paragon II to TNC question

Anyone have any idea what the best hookup is for the MFJ 1278 TNC to the
PARAGON II is.

I made up a cable and when I connected to the back of the rig, I get a
signal output like I'm running a carrier.  I don't have any signal
comming out of the TNC but there must be something that drives the audio
on the radio.  Any ideas.  Do I need to isolate the audio input from the
TNC to the rig?
