Jon,

Not sure what you mean by "play". Slop, like turn the knob a ways
before something happens? Is the knob loose? There is a tuning
knob drag adjustment, see paragraph 2-5 on page 2-3 of the manual.
If that doesn't solve it, call Ten-Tec, it's definitely not
normal.
