still can't seem to figure out the CW zero beat procedure.  I know i
need
to hold in the CW button while tuning in the CW station.  But do i match
the tone of that station or do i zero out the tone to get on his exact
freq??"

 Bob,

As with all modern transceivers, you simply match the tone of the
received station to that of your side tone.
